In Golden Hour at Water’s Edge, I set out to capture that fleeting, luminous moment where the setting sun pierces through soft, atmospheric clouds to illuminate the surrounding coastal landscape. I was drawn to the stark contrast between the warm, saturated glow of dusk and the cool, quiet depths of the water below.
To give the composition physical presence, I worked in heavy impasto gouache using direct, expressive brushwork. Dense layers of warm coral, amber, and rich ochre define the sky, balanced against deep cerulean blue tones. Forest greens and dark silhouettes anchor the midground, while tactile, full-bodied strokes bring texture to the foreground dune grasses as they catch the final rays of light.
